"Bought used. Ran once, overh

"Bought used. Ran once, overheated quite a bit. I then changed the t-stat, and bad impeller. Took it out for a 1hour test run. Ran fine, checked the oil level upon return. It ran out of the oil dip stick hole for 30 seconds. Very milky!!!! I took off the valve cover gasket, milky oil everywhere..... Please help..."
 
How can I test if its the gask

How can I test if its the gasket or a cracked engine? Can I do a compression test on it to see? Whats the balpark figures to have someone check/ fix the headgasket?? Thanks man!!!
