"I have an '62 Johnson 28hp RXL-10C without a wiring harness for ignition (starter in motor works fine, just no wires to battery/ignition).

Can anyone tell me what other Johnsons would have compatible harnesses? Someone I know has a 35hp parts motor of the right vintage. Would this work for me? Or is here an after-market source for these?

Thanks."

"That 35HP wiring harness should be compatable. You need that external "starting" box that includes the starter solenoid, right.

That motor is a magneto, twin point model. The two black wires from under the flywheel will short the points to kill the ignition. You need to run them to the ignition switch. You also need a starter solenoid (+12V) wire to energize the starter solenoid. That is the minimum, although that motor may also have a overheat light on the dash, and if it has a generator, they used to have an ammeter on the dash."
