We have a 1993 Merc 7.4L with the Bravo 1 drive, approx 300 hours. Noticed that the steering wheel feels like there is a bit of play from side to side. Plus, to get the boat to steer straight now, the wheel (designed like a T) is off approx. 10 degrees.
We've been told we have to replace the cable ($250 plus labor). Is this true or ???

My understanding is that it is true. There's also a rack and pinion set up behind the wheel. I've never found a way to adjust out the play. My interpretation is that the whole assembly needs to go to the dumpster.

Figure out Where the Slop is.....
It could be in the outdrive's Gimbel Housing,....
Or the tiller arm, Or,..??..??

The adjustment to center the wheel is limited, but some can be adjusted out at the transom end of the cable...."
