"Hi, I have a 9.9HP johnson and I have oil leaking from the water intake (where you put the flush muffs when you flush the engine with fresh water)
Also it is very smokey as I think someone put too much oil in the mix.

1. will the smokey ness just burn off or do I have to pull it apaert.
2. it this a bad sign with the oil leaking?

Any advice much appreciated"

"Jason, if your oil mix ratio is wrong that would account for both the smoke and the excess oil (burnt/unburnt) ending up running down your exhaust and out the lower unit.

Start with some fresh gas mixed at 50:1 and run the motor for a bit - I suspect both problems will clear up...."

But it does say 100:1 shall I use 50:1?

I really bought these for a steal 9.9Hp and 2Hp
all on trade me.
I am endeavouring to rebuild my 60HP Feto Yam and we can use the smaller motors for our run about in One of the beautiful spots in the world Mahurangi Harbour in New Zealand.

"Jason, I have an 87 Ev that has the 100:1 sticker on it as well. I will post the bulleten from OMC about using 50:1. You may find your plugs oil foul a bit with the extra oil, but I just change the plugs every year. Anyhow, here's the note from OMC...
