I have


"2000 5.7L Bravo II.

I have noticed lateral play in the drive (side to side) upon inspecting, i noticed that the upper gimble ring is NOT secure to the Steering swivel shaft.

I believe i can tighten the gimble ring with the two upper bolts, but am unsure how much before the aluminum on the gimble ring may break.

anybody have input??

The Odds are the gimbel ring is Worn too far to be retightened.....
Tightening those bolts is Supposed to be a part of the Annual maintance,...

You can Try it,.. But be prepared to Replace it....."

"Not the ideal repair, but you can replace the stainless grade 5 bolts with grade 8 and suck that ring down with an air wrench. I've done it.

If you put excessive torque on the existing bolts, they will strip."

I think I would get a case of beer and your boating buddies together when you tighten it and no matter if it tightens ok or strips you will know the answer and go from there.Since your marina is not all that far from the one I am in,I know of a real nice house boat you could buy cheap if you are down for a while......todd"
