I have a 1996 48 hp. My Tach

I have a 1996 48 hp. My Tach will not work. I tried switching the gray tach wire to another lead from the rectifier and the tach works...so I replaced the rectifier and returned the lead to the yellow/gray and the tach does not work on yellow gray. What next?
 
Check the rectifier for proper

Check the rectifier for proper operation. The rectifier has four connections. Test with a continuity meter. Each adjacent pair of connections should have continuity one way and none the other way.
