Weak spark 20hp Johnson

"1970 Johnson J2893170 - I unhooked the small wires from each coil.Had continuity ( with analog meter) between leads to the coils. When I tested between spark plug wire and each coil lead, meter would go up about half way. Is this good? Or how should I check coils? The spark will only jump a 1/16 gap."

"before u spend money on parts,..always ck compression....if fairly even,..and prob around 75-90 lbs psi------ make sure the plate,that the coils mount to (stator plate)..does not move excessively from side to side.....u will never keep an acurate brkr point setting if so. Tune it up,w/new parts...make sure coils are not cracked..set points to .020.now if the plate does mv to much..side to side,..u can inst modules..which is an excellent repl for points...also,make sure the coils,line up w/a notched area on the coil supporting leg,on the outside of coil."
