Trim pump solenoid

"the pump will trim up but not

"the pump will trim up but not down. there is 2 solenoids on the pump one is on the top and its for up movement the other is on the bottom of the pump, its for the down movement. I jumped the solenoid accross the 2 small terminals and nothing happens, so I jumped the 2 larger terminals and it trims down. I tested each terminal and the is power where there should be and ground where there should be with the multimeter. so I know its the solenoid. my ? is can i replace this with a typical ford starter solenoid just as i did for the starter on my engine due to a savings of about $50.00..."

"A replacement is $20. Replace both of them and consider changing the slave solenoid since it will fail when you least expect it. Check the part numbers for a match but I think all three use the same one. Make sure the base nut is tight on each stud and then hold it with a wrench while tightening the top nut.

If you have doubts about the e

If you have doubts about the engine hour meter on a tach( been replaced) is there a way to get it off the engine itself (4.3 or 5.0 )
