"Big A's thread struck a chord.
The very first boat I bought on the very first time I used it, leaked water from between the transom and the drain ferrel.
There are numerous holes drilled into the transom; motor mounts, the drain, transducers, etc and this is a sensitive/critical part of the boat.

Should these be opened on any frequency to check for water intrusion?
Is the drain ferrel good for life?"

Taking a look at my boat, and my other older boat, it appears that there is some sort of sealer/silicone under the washers of all the bolts going into the transom. I guess if there is any concern at all, for piece of mind, it would only take a Saturday afternoon to check them all out and reseal them. Check what type of shape the glass and gelcoat is in. I've never checked out the ones on my old boat (1985 cadorette), but it might not be a bad idea to do so.
