BF8 Lower End Oil in hole by Zinc

I noticed oil coming out of on

I noticed oil coming out of one of the holes by the zinc on my 2000 BF8. There are 4 in front of the zinc and 1 behind it. The oil is in the one behind the zinc. The hole is only on one side of the engine. It looks like gearcase oil but the lower end is full. I can't find any reference in the manual.

It looks more like the engine oil than the gear oil in the lower end. I haven't used the kicker at all since I bought the boat 6 months ago. It has always been in tilted position when running and secured vertically when trailering. The last time I had it out it was a particularly choppy day.

The oil level is full and it runs fine. Is there some path that allows engine oil to get down to the lower end?
