Coil wireing help mercruiser 165 Straight 6 CLY Chevy

Please help me determine whic

Please help me determine which wires should go to which posts on the coil.

Three wires:

White or tan ?
Brown
Red - from distributor

Please let me know what side of coil these should connect to.

"WHITE TAN SHOULD BE A GRAY WI

"WHITE TAN SHOULD BE A GRAY WIRE WHICH COMES FROM THE TACHOMETER AND GOES TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE COIL.
BROWN SHOULD REALLY BE PURPLE WHICH COMES FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AND GOES TO THE PLUS SIDE OF THE COIL.
RED WIRE FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR GOES TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE COIL. I GUESS SOMEONE CHANGED THE WIRE ON THE DISTRIBUTOR AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, BECAUSE IT IS GENERALLY BLACK.
