I have a buttload of oil coming form the prop seal on my 1999 Volvo Penta SX. I have worked on a lot of OMC's but can't figure out if I need to remove the lower unit to replace this seal and the O ring. There seems to be a keeper in the housing that holds the prop shaft. Do I just need a three finger puller to remove the housing and the shaft will follow?

If you look carefully into th

If you look carefully into the Ex. housing you will notice a bolt that act`s as a keeper. remove that bolt then you will be able to remove the bearing carrier with a long jawed puller.
Have seen simuliar seal failures on Volvo SX drives. Seems like there is a design fault with those seals. Check with your Volvo dealer - May be a updated replacment seal avaiable.Dodn`t forget that the oil must be replaced with a pump from lower drain hole - up to level plug to avoid air pockets.
